What to Know as Disneyland Reopens

Magic is back in Southern California! After a year-long shutdown, Disneyland® Park and Disney California Adventure® Park have begun a phased reopening starting April 30, and it’s a whole new world. The anticipation is high and there are new guidelines, requirements and operational changes to be aware of, so we rounded up a few key pieces of information.

Reservations Required

There won’t be a way for guests to just stop by and make an unplanned visit. To comply with government requirements and promote physical distancing, attendance will be managed through a new park reservation system. Guests will need to obtain a reservation for park entry in advance. To enter a park, both a park reservation and valid admission for the same park on the same date are required for guests ages 3 and up. Theme park reservations will be limited and subject to availability.

Golden State Residents Only

Theme park reservations will be limited and subject to availability and, until further notice, only California residents may visit the parks, and in groups no larger than 3 households, in line with current state guidelines. Note: Southern California CityPASS admission tickets for Disneyland ® Resort will be available on beginning April 15, but currently those entering the parks must be a California resident.

Important Dates

April 12: The theme park reservation system will launch. Guests with existing valid theme park tickets can begin making park reservations for the days that their ticket is valid.

April 15: Theme park ticket sales will resume at 8am PT. Guests without park tickets may begin purchasing tickets and making park reservations. Reminder: Ticket expiration dates were extended for many outstanding tickets. To accommodate as many types of ticket holders as possible, park reservations for select dates may be made available on a rolling basis. Ticket calendars will be updated on a rolling basis.

April 30: Disneyland® Park and Disney California Adventure® Park will reopen on April 30. Tip: Guests should be sure to log in to their Disney account first to link valid theme park tickets prior to accessing the park reservation system.

The New Normal

Wear a mask, keep 6 feet of distance, be kind and have patience. All guests ages two and older must wear a mask at all times unless actively eating or drinking. That means sitting at an outdoor restaurant table warrants a mask unless you’re actually taking a sip or a bite. For a contactless and cashless experience, use the mobile order service — available exclusively on the Disneyland® Resort App. It makes it easy to plan ahead, order, and pay for food and beverages at most quick service restaurants inside the theme parks. Temperature screenings may be required for some locations. Based on guidance from health authorities, anyone displaying a temperature of 100.4 F or above will be directed to an additional location for rescreening and assistance. Those with temperatures of 100.4 F or above will not be allowed entry; those in their party will not be allowed entry either.

Many of the popular rides at both parks will be open, but there will be fewer attractions to take in, like parades and fireworks, as those are still on hold, and none of the perks like Fast Passes or Magic Mornings will be available. But, guests can expect beloved characters to pop up in new ways and sometimes in unexpected places as they remain mindful of physical distancing. A new perk will be experiencing the parks with fewer people.

This Guidance is Fluid

Currently, California is operating on a county-by-county approach and using a tier system to reopening businesses and attractions. Disneyland capacity limits are currently based on those guidelines for Orange County. On June 15 the entire state will reopen as a whole rather than taking the county-by-county approach, so capacity limits and resident-only restrictions could change as guidelines shift.

Park Hours

Upon reopening, daily park hours for Disneyland® Park and Disney California Adventure® Park are currently planned to be 9am to 7pm. Visit for operating hours on the day you wish to visit, as they are subject to change.
